Oh Happy Days!

When I was a lad, Uncle Alan used to take me with him to fly his model aeroplanes over Chobham Common. They were radio controlled but invariably would fly out of range and ditch somewhere damp and prickly. My job was to hurtle off and find the thing then turn it off before the battery died.

In later life he picked me up from Gatwick but then forgot where he'd parked. That was a fun hour or so!

He loved his Jazz and we often went to Jagz in Ascot for Sunday brunch. Bacon and egg sarnie was the rule and one or two jars of whatever was on tap. He told the story of the jazz drummer who'd invented a cross between a brush and a stick....he called it a stush. Because he could hardly call it a brick. (Sorry....his fault)
